Unknown to Bowman and Poole, the survey team had been separately trained to investigate another alien monolith that telescopes had revealed in orbit around Jupiter. Three of Discovery's astronauts, the Jupiter survey team, were placed on board already in suspended animation (or "hibernation"). Their food paste, however, is much more primitive than the dehydrated space foods in use by astronauts in the actual year 2001. In the film, the astronauts use a tablet computer called an "IBM News Pad" to watch TV transmissions from Earth. Shown below is a 420-foot-long concept vehicle, powered by four nuclear engines and capable of carrying a crew of eight on a 15-month mission to Mars in 1975. The design of Discovery was influenced by a set of NASA-funded studies done in 1962 called EMPIRE ("Early Manned Planetary-Interplanetary Round Trip Expeditions"). Discovery's on-duty astronauts, Dave Bowman and Frank Poole, spend their time in the 52-foot diameter Habitat Sphere, where a rotating drum-shaped Centrifuge spins constantly to generate artificial gravity about equal to a quarter of Earth's. The 520-foot spaceship Discovery One is launched on a secret mission to investigate. When the TMA-1 monolith is first exposed to sunlight, it beams a radio signal to the planet Jupiter. The Soviet Union maintains a base elsewhere on the moon.Īstronauts from Clavius take a short trip by rocket-bus to the crater Tycho, where they examine Tycho Magnetic Anomaly One (TMA-1), an 11-foot-tall (3.4 meters) rectangular alien artifact that had been deliberately buried 4 million years ago. In the film, Clavius Base is a half-mile-wide American moon colony housing 400 personnel. Real-life spacecraft contractors including IBM, Honeywell, RCA and General Electric were consulted for their predictions of the technology of 35 years in the future. Ordway III, chief science adviser Harry Lange, illustrator and concept artist (who later would design spaceship interiors for "Star Wars") and Tony Masters, production designer on "Lawrence of Arabia," "Dune" and other films. The spaceships of 2001 were designed by Frederick I. This 1953 painting by Chesley Bonestell features a ring-shaped, rotating space station, a winged shuttle plane, and lunar landing vehicles under construction. The kinds of spacecraft depicted in "2001" were imagined by engineers in the years following World War II. In one of the most famous transitions in film history, a camera shot of a bone tumbling through the air cuts to a shot of an orbiting spacecraft, a gap of 4 million years between film frames. The oldest known stone tools date back to 2.6 million years ago. Around the time frame of the film, a species of pre-human called Australopithecus lived in Africa. It is not known when the ancestors of humans first used tools and weapons. The apes kill animals for food, and later bludgeon the leader of an enemy tribe: the first murder. The influence of the monolith causes one of the apes to begin using bones as weapons. One day, an unexplained black monolith appears. A troop of prehuman man-apes is barely surviving on the African plain as a drought threatens their existence. The film begins 4 million years in the past. Clarke wrote various versions of the story under Kubrick's guidance, and the film was pieced together from their collaborative effort. Four years in the making, "2001" drew from the most optimistic predictions of futurists to map out a then-believable scenario of 21st-century space travel. Stanley Kubrick's ambitious film "2001: A Space Odyssey" premiered on April 2, 1968.

Unlike other reptiles such as lizards, snakes are carnivorous. In the evening it is not uncommon to see snakes out on the roads or sidewalks soaking up heat from the asphalt. To prevent themselves from getting too cold snakes bask in the sun, rest under a heat lamp or find a warm spot to curl up in. If they are too cold they will struggle to digest food, move around or escape predators. Once they are warmed up snakes have the energy to go about their day (or night). the sun) help them heat up and gain energy to function. They are cold blooded and rely on the outside temperature to get energy. Snakes cannot create body heat on their own. These species are semiaquatic and venomous. Sea kraits are part of the subfamily Laticaudinae. They are fully aquatic and eat fish and invertebrates. True sea snakes are part of the subfamily Hydrophiinae. There are 60 species of sea snake that are divided into two main groups: Sea snakes are a member of the Elapidae family which also includes cobras and adders. Interestingly not all species of snakes live on land. The Himalayan pit viper has been found to live at an elevation of 16,000 feet above sea level. Snakes have been found on every continent apart from Antarctica. To date 3,686 species of snakes have been discovered and recorded. It is difficult to know exactly how many species of snake there are in the wild. Snakes are a global and diverse animal species. By the looks of what I’m seeing, I’m assuming NP4 and NPPE aren’t actually designed for flat levels and no compression. The level issues are obviously correctable as long as the user is aware, but are the NP4 and the BBCSO Pro NP playback engine designed to be paired with Dorico’s default compression and levels? I think it’s fairly safe to assume the Dorico playback template developed by Spitfire is calibrated for at least Dorico’s compression as it sounds terrible without it. Here’s the ending:Įven the regular NP4 audio without compression exhibits a bit of clipping on this file though. #6, the bottom BBCSO Pro file using Spitfire’s Playback Template (not NPs) without compression sounds terrible as it’s very distorted. I suppose Steinberg and Yamaha wouldn’t mind to collaborate with on a new AI player that will support the whole potential of Dorico and possibly Cubase/Nuendo. If you can’t afford to hire more developers, the only solution is a collaboration with a bigger company. Very often different companies collaborate in order to create something innovative and successful. I know that your company is a very small, but you could always get into collaboration with companies like Steinberg and the team behind their VST products. Once such application becomes available, NP will become unnecessary… That way you may put at risk the future of your product.Ĭurrently you are the one to offer such multi-platform AI solution, but if are neglecting the DAW side, sooner or later another company will come up with a product that covers both aspects of the Notation DAWs. Won’t be good for NP and NPPE if you focus your attention only on the “MS Word” side of the Notation DAWs. The increasing Dorico user base, and the DAW features in MuseScore 4, show that the notation software isn’t a “Microsoft Word for music” anymore… Yes, there are people who are using those apps just as MS Word, in some cases me, too. Well, obviously the music World heading to a software of new generation DAW-like notation applications like Dorico, MuseScore 4, Overture, the upcoming Encore 6 ( those two most probably will fade away from the market), Staffpad… If programs like Sibelius and Finale don’t move forward they will be at risk of loosing their entire market share. The primary function of a notation program is print. It’s also important to remember: If you want control over the slightest nuance of performance and sound, that’s the primary function of a DAW, such as Cubase. I’ve found that purely in that respect, even with the current limitations of non-programmable boundaries, it’s possible to get a somewhat higher rate of the correct shorter articulation in a well-programmed map where there is a wide choice (in libraries like VSL) than NotePerfomer necessarily managed but I’m not underestimating the overall capabilities of these engines - I have been more impressed than I’d expected to be honest so far with my natural scepticism Of course the exact behaviour will depend on what choice of shorter articulations the library offers. It’s one step less far than putting a tenuto marking or something. However, the problem can be reduced or even eliminated simply by lengthening the notes in the Key Editor, at any rate with the BBC SO where I’ve been trying it. This is what I was saying a few days ago. I wish NP would not be so quick to switch to the shorter articulations across the board, and if there’s a way to control this that I’m not aware of, I’d love to spend some time dialing in my preferences. Normally, string and wind players still play very connected even if not slurred, since slurs for these instruments represent very specific instrument techniques, as opposed to on piano where the the slur/non-slur distinction is a little fuzzier and subject to interpretation. The sounds are way too agressive at shortening things that aren’t slurred. Combat is essentially a giant rock-paper-scissors match with infantry usually being strong against cavalry, cavalry strong against archers, archers strong against infantry, and there are a number of other counter units and siege weapons thrown in to shake things up. The gameplay in every installment is virtually the same as you gather food, gold, wood, and another resource to build up your towns, erect defenses, field an army, upgrade that army, advance through the ages, and defeat the opposing factions. A spin-off called Age of Mythology would release 2 years later and it remains one of my all-time favorite games and it represented the peak of the franchise. The following game, Age of Empires II, enjoyed a lot more mainstream success and was a must-have PC game at the time. The first game was released back in 1997 and it spanned from the Stone Age to the Roman Empire period. □ Work, ye maggots this gold ain't gonna mine itself! (Age of Empires II)įor those who may not be aware, Age of Empires is a series of real-time strategy games that were very popular in the late 90s and early 2000s. │ Nothing causes more disappointment than hype so at Video Chums, we avoid hyping games prior to playing them for ourselves. I spent a good chunk of time on it and had a fairly good time but before I first booted it up, a couple questions kept entering my mind: does Age of Empires have a place in gaming anymore and is the franchise on the whole still worth playing? Last month, Age of Empires IV released for PC and it marks the first full installment of the franchise since Age of Empires III back in 2005. Journey to the Savage Planet isn’t combat-heavy, but you will run into quite a few unpleasant local animals.
